Cassandra
received good care and lived with a quiet, older couple
until they could no longer take care of themselves,
much less take care of her.
Unfortunately, no one made plans for Cassandra’s continued care and she lost her home as the household was dismantled.
This amount of change makes a huge impression on a companion animal. Cassandra seemed quite sad when she came to us. The triple shock of losing her caregiver, her home, and moving into a foster situation was clearly a burden.
At first, it was her custom to hang out by the door, as if she were waiting for someone. Cassandra is more comfortable now, and able to ask for pats on the head. She’s very affectionate, and when she forgets herself, she’s playful.
(Far too many beloved companion animals become instantly homeless upon the death of their caregivers. Please take time now to discuss options with your lawyer and make provisions for your animals in your will.)
