Cedric is enough of a kitten that his purrsonality, like his body, is still under construction. He and his sister, Daphne had been rescued and were living at the Vinton Animal Shelter. Although both cats look like they have eye issues, neither is blind and both get around just fine.

This kitten likes a good lap and is an especially good snuggler when sitting next to you in a chair. He's very outgoing and gets a kick out of string being dangled just out of reach. Cedrick has a bit of the mountain climber in him and seems to believe furniture is for climbing. He loves to explore.

So far Cedrick dosen’t seem to be a zoomer when the door is open. He’s not dog-wise, but he is very friendly and flexible.

Like most helping communities where needs continually overwhelm resources, animal rescuers have an active grapevine. Here's how Cedrick and Daphné found their way to JCHS.

Plea from a Vinton Animal Shelter VolunteerNeed rescue for 2, 14-week-old kittens with a congenital condition that makes them blind. One has film on both eyes, the other on one eye. Otherwise in good condition and friendly.

Pix from a different Vinton Animal Shelter VolunteerI am forwarding these in hopes to find a foster home for these babies. If you (or anyone you know) can foster them, please let me know asap.

Response from a Washington County Animal RescuerI will cc to others who may know of a home for the little ones. Blind kitties do fine unless there are pestering dogs around. We had a blind and deaf cat—it happened to her gradually, which is different—but she didn’t let anything slow her down!

Response from a Cedar Rapids Animal RescuerIf anyone ever needs input about living with blindness in a cat, I am happy to provide assistance.

Response from JCHS Adoption & FosterCareWill spread the word all over.

Response from a Vinton Animal Shelter VolunteerThank you for your response. I just got rescue for them a short while ago.

Response from JCHS Adoption & FosterCareWow, that was quick!

Response from JCHS MemberGuess what? Tom and I won the blind kitten lottery! We must have been the first to reply. Here’s a picture!

Isn’t he adorable?...
