Julieanne

DOB:  5/99

Female

Julieanne is an awesome cat.

Born to a feral mom on the fringe of town, she had always lived outside, too.

But she shared her mother’s territory and finally (as an older kitten) ventured across the road and met one of the neighbors famous for feeding strays.

One day, the neighbor, Dorothy, was appalled to discover that somehow, Julieanne had lost both her hind feet—one just below the stifle (knee) and the other, mid-femur (mid-thigh.)

Dorothy continued to keep an eye on Julieanne. It wasn’t too hard since the small cat’s gait was so unusual. She used her stumps interchangeably, as the ends would get abraded.

When Julieanne had a litter of five kittens in July, 2000, she moved them onto Dorothy’s property. And finally, after spending weeks getting Julieanne to trust her more, Dorothy was able to capture Julieanne in a crate.

After reading the X-rays of Julieanne’s hind quarters, we’ve concluded that her disability is due to trauma rather than a birth defect.

This awesome cat remains in fostercare. Her mobility and agility are astounding and word has it she easily out-runs her caregiver, even on stairs!

Julieanne’s five well-socialized kittens (Cookie, Danny Boy, Gracie, Sugar, and Sweetie) have already found new homes.

Now that Julieanne’s family is grown, she has more time to devote to her burgeoning social life.

Julieanne likesbeing talked to; being petted; the comfort of snuggling with friends

She dislikesquick hand movements; loud noises

Julieanne will always be shy and skitty around people she doesn’t know or have any reason to trust. We’re so proud of her spunk and the many ways in which she has blossomed. In 2004, Julianne won the JCHS Scarlett Award for Valor.
