Lucky—adopted!

Photo: Lucky the cat.Lucky really is a lucky guy. He showed up limping this past spring at the home of a cat-friendly woman who feeds strays. That first day, what he needed most was food and water, but it soon became apparent that he had experienced severe blunt trauma to his left side that had literally crushed his shoulder.

The shattered bones of the damaged joint had begun to heal in place. Bone fragments were working their way through the surface of his skin, and the resulting massive infection caused eight or nine draining tracts. Lucky was a feverish mess who needed medical care.

If Lucky hurt, he didn’t let on. He’s done long courses of three different antibiotics to clear up the infection. The area of his skin wound reduced to the size of a quarter, which is hardly visible due to his coat’s length.

Lucky is very human-oriented and almost frantically wants “to be with” humans. He’s vocally interactive with a breathy voice more like a whisper or a hiss than a meow that could be the result of his shoulder/chest trauma.

This affectionate cat loves attention and is willing to work for it. He does not seem to be afraid of dogs. Lucky will always have a significant limp and is at risk for developing arthritis. He also has a habit of “being underfoot,” which could be dangerous for a human with balance problems.
