Spot had been nicely socialized as a kitten, but something happened and he lost his home. Maybe he just wandered off like most young males do when no one bothers to have them neutered. He ended up footsore, bedraggled and begging for food out at Chatham Oaks. Some really nice people were sneaking food and water out to him, but he had to stay outside. And it was cold enough to make your ears fall off. We heard about Spot’s plight from one of the nice people who was looking out for him and making sure he had something to eat. When Spot arrived at the Coralville Animal Clinic, he looked scrawney and dehydrated, and what is now snowy white, was dingy grey. He also had a severe case of earmites that must have been driving him crazy. Spot was so hungry that he practically inhaled his first bowl of food! We put a golf ball in his dish to slow him down. |
After a few days of rest, relaxation, and warmth, Spot’s dingy grey got brighter, the thick calluses on his footpads began peeling, and the frostbitten half of his right ear literally cracked and broke off.
