October 27 (W)Health Iowa Fair-----8am-3:30pm at the Fieldhouse on the campus of The University of Iowa: On October 27, 1999, JCHS participated in the Health Iowa Fair. The goal of the UI’s Health Iowa program is to showcase and promote healthy lifestyles.

This was JCHS’s third year of participation and the first time we’ve had the luxury of two humans staffing the display (we’ve always had two cats helping out). Our booth continues to be a popular site because of the cats.

This year, Lucifer and Forrest (who patiently occupied laps or the table top) elicited many opportunities for Jill Johnston and Janet Ashman to talk about companion animals. Especially about how having pets adds a special positive dimension (including lowering blood pressure) to our lives. They also responded to questions about responsible guardianship and the JCHS pet-assisted therapy program.

By the end of the day, both humans were hoarse and both cats were curled up together, napping on the table.

December 16 (Th)JCHS Holiday Open House-----6:30pm: We gathered at president, Janice Becker’s home to celebrate the holidays with our friends. The food was great, but the opportunity to visit with one another was the absolute best! Thank you all for helping us have a good year!
