February 11 (W)Open Forum:  the No-kill Movement-----7pm, ISU College of Veterinary Medicine, Ames, Iowa.

February 12 (Th)Building No-kill Communities-----3-5pm, ISU College of Veterinary Medicine, Ames, Iowa.

Meet Richard Avanzino, president of Maddie’s Fund, and learn strategies for developing and expanding adoption and spay/neuter programs so that within five years all adoptable (healthy) shelter dogs and cats will be guaranteed loving homes.

ISU received a grant from Maddie’s Fund to establish their Shelter Medicine Program, designed to teach veterinary students how to improve the quality of shelter pet lives, reduce shelter deaths, increase the adoption of shelter animals, and lay the foundation for saving all treatable shelter dogs and cats. JCHS participated last summer in a research project with ISU comparing the extent of internal parasitism in cats residing in the traditional shelter environment with that of cats in foster homes.
